The Process Healing Method (PHM) is a treatment intervention developed by Garry Flint over many years of clinical practice. It is described as a respectful, effective, and safe way to treat self-destructive behaviors, beliefs, painful emotions and memories. PHM evolved from Flint's work with complex patients, including a schizophrenic patient with severe problems and intruding voices, and his attempts to overcome treatment barriers. It is based on a unique theory of personality development and behavior rooted in clinically based theory of brain processes, incorporating ideas from learning theory (Skinner) and chaos theory (Freeman), and building upon insights from therapies like EMDR and Thought Field Therapy (TFT).The core of the PHM model is that all brain and body activity is run and managed by memories. Symptoms are defined as memory structures. The method uses constructs, which are metaphors for processes in the mind and body, to provide a language for communicating with the subconscious to cause change in problematic issues.
